FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY ASSESSMENT EXAM REGISTRATION FROM JANUARY, 2023 TO JUNE, 2023
- Who can take the exam?
All the persons who want to have their foreign language proficiency assessed or those who need the certificate of foreign language proficiency based on the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam, and
- have submitted all the required registration documents; have paid the fee.
- are not being banned from taking any Foreign Language Proficiency Assessment Exam in Vietnam in 2 years for committing one of the followings:
– Let someone else take the test for you or take the test for someone else in any form (impersonation);
– Attempt to disrupt the exam; assault the exam organizers or other candidates.

- Registration documents
– Exam registration form (Appendix 1)
– 02 photos (4cm×6cm) taken no more than 06 months before the exam, having the candidate’s full name and date of birth written on the back.
– 01 notarized copy of one of the valid identification documents that candidates will use in the exam: identity card or passport.
* Note: Candidates must bring the original identification documents for comparison when submitting the registration documents.
- Registration and payment methods
4.1. In person
Candidates can register for the exam, submit the documents and pay the fee in person at the office – Room 106 – Building A4 – University of Languages and International Studies during office hours on working days.
4.2. Submit your documents by post and transfer the exam fee

- Registration withdrawal
– To withdraw the registration, candidates must visit the office at Room 106 – Building A4 – University of Languages and International Studies – No. 2 Pham Van Dong Road – Cau Giay District – Hanoi and show
- identification documents (the original copy of ID card or passport) and
- confirmation of payment and registration submission
– Deadline for full refund: Before the registration period ends
– Deadline for 50% refund: Before the exam at least 5 working days
– Within 5 working days before the exam, no refund is possible.
- Test formats
– Format of VSTEP.3-5 – Vietnamese Standardized Test of English Proficiency level 3 to 5 (Appendix 2)
– Format of the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Assessment Test (Appendix 3).
– Test mode:
- Reading, Listening, and Writing skills: paper-based (usually in the morning)
- Speaking: in person interview with examiners (Candidates are often divided into different groups to take different speaking test sessions, usually in the afternoon of the test day or on the next day after the written test).

– Exam briefing session (Information is often posted 5 days before the exam).
– Time, venue, test room, and candidate number (Information is often updated within 3 days before the exam).
– Note:
- Candidates must bring valid identification documents to the exam.
- Pens and pencils will be provided by the exam organizer.
- Candidates are not allowed to bring into the exam area: cell phones, transceivers, watches, and other devices. Candidates who arrive late after the exam starts will not be allowed to take the test.
- Candidates who do not take the test of a skill will not be able to proceed further with the exam.
- Exam results
– 10 to 12 working days after the exam, the exam results are available on the website http://vstep.vnu.edu.vn (http://vstep.vnu.edu.vn/trang-chu/tra-cuu-ket-qua/). Candidates can check the result using the ID or PASSPORT number.
– Within 05 working days after the test results announcement, candidates can request temporary test result certificates if needed (request form can be downloaded from http://vstep.vnu.edu.vn/bieu-mau/). Requests after this time will not be processed.
- Remark request
– Within 03 working days after the test results announcement, candidates who want their tests to be remarked need to submit remark requests (request form can be downloaded from http://vstep.vnu.edu.vn/bieu-mau/) and pay the fee of 100,000 VND/01 skill at Room 106 – Building A4 – University of Languages and International Studies – No. 2 Pham Van Dong Road – Cau Giay District – Hanoi
– The results of the score re-examination will be available no later than 10 working days after the remark request period ends.
- Official certificate pickup
– 25 working days after the exam, official certificates are available.
– Within 02 months after the exam, candidates can pick up the certificate
- on every Tuesday and Thursday (during office hours on working days)

Appendix 2: VSTEP.3-5 TEST FORMAT
